The Land That Made Us is the story of eighty years of farming in the South West Peak, an area stretching from Lyme Park in Cheshire in the north to Onecote in Staffordshire in the south, and from Macclesfield in the west to Buxton in the east.

Christine Gregory and Sheila Hine have collated the personal accounts of local farmers and land managers, many of whom have lived and worked in this often challenging landscape for generations. In their own words, the farmers recall the changes to traditional farming in the aftermath of the Second World War, and speak of the transition from working with horses and milking by hand to using tractors and milking parlours. We hear about close communities where children helped on the farm from a very early age and neighbours went out of their way to support each other at times of hardship.

The book is published in partnership with the Farming Life Centre and the Peak District National Park Authority, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
